Autumn is a spectacularly special season on the fertile, scenic coast around Half Moon Bay where the entire Coastside area bursts into a brilliant sea of orange and buzzes with excitement and activity to celebrate its bountiful and beautiful fall harvest. The dazzling journey is its own reward … the tunnel through Devils Slide is a sight to behold plus the breath-taking views of seaside farm country dotted with vast, rolling fields of orange, scarecrows, barns, and pick-your-own pumpkin patches.
This year’s Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival (October 15-16) and Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off (October 10) will feature the biggest, heaviest pumpkin sculpture the world has ever seen. Even bigger than the whoppers that will win the annual Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off. It is a mosaic sculpture that measures 11-feet high, 12-feet long, and weighs 10,000 pounds. But, unlike other giant pumpkins, this one is made of steel, cement, and ceramic tile.
